Primary (Prep - Grade 5)

Classroom teachers are responsible for the core subjects of Maths, English, General Studies and Biblical Studies.

P.E and Sport, LOTE and Information Technology are provided by specialists.

A class-based music program is run for Grades Prep to 4, and PMP (Perceptual Motor-skills Program) for Grades Prep to 2.

All students have access to computers.

Primary teachers employ a wide range of teaching styles to provide an integrated program that caters for individual children’s needs.

Parents are much appreciated as classroom helpers.

Middle School (Grade 6 - Year 8)

Grade 6 to Year 8 are provided with a unique program which gradually introduces students to an increasing range of specialist staff and facilities, while retaining the stability and security of spending at least two periods every day with a homeroom teacher for core subjects.

The program is under constant review to avoid overlap and to best prepare students in the skills they need for more independent learning in secondary classes.

Such skills include mastery of basic processes in maths and literacy, keyboarding skills, homework and study skills, safe and skilled handling of a variety of tools, and developing areas of service.

Secondary

Subjects have been chosen to provide a broad but solid preparation for the specialised teaching provided in Year 11 and 12 VCE programs. Details of the curriculum are available on request.

A careful program of careers education is supported by a well-developed work-experience program. The Year 10 students are kept fully advised on matters relating to VCE and alternatives in further education.

The core subjects are English, Maths, Biblical Studies, SOSE, PE/Sport.

Other subjects introduced in Years 7 and 8, and offered as electives in Years 9 and 10, include Art and Craft, Design and Technology Studies, Advanced Physical Education, Graphics, Food Technology, Information Technology, Media Studies, and Instrumental Music (Guitar), LOTE through Distance Education facilities, and Textiles.

Supporting Studies

Music Tuition

Private tuition for both primary and secondary students is available at school for a wide variety of musical instruments.

The school also hires out many instruments at very reasonable rates.

Requests are handled through the main office, and passed on to the appropriate music tutor.

Swimming

This is part of the curriculum. Swimming classes are held for primary students at the Leongatha pool during the school year. Wonthaggi will make use of the Wonthaggi heated pool.

Interschool Sport

Opportunities to participate occur at both local district level (at this stage this covers primary rather than secondary students, mainly due to our size), and through the network of Gippsland Christian Schools.

The college is an associate member of the Gippsland Independent Schools and students compete in a Summer & Winter Round Robin, as well as Cross Country carnival every year with other Independent Schools throughout Gippsland.

Students are further encouraged to participate in the programs of their local sport clubs.

Camps

The school runs progressive camps programs from Grade 1 onward.

These are educationally valuable, and are kept low-cost so that all students are able to participate.

Parents are also informed of dates and costs early in the year to help budget for them.
